Frequently asked questions
How can Sodium Hydroxide (lye) be incorporated into soap and it still be considered natural?
Yes, once the soapmaking process is complete and the soap has cured, the sodium hydroxide (lye) is no longer present in its original form. Instead, the end result is a soap that no longer contains free or unreacted sodium hydroxide. Instead, it contains soap molecules, glycerin (a natural byproduct of the reaction), and any additional natural ingredients or fragrances that were added during the soapmaking process. There is also no such thing as lye free soap.
Are preservatives natural?
The one’s we use are not but they are skin safe. We want to ensure your products are free of mold, yeast, bacteria and other unfriendly microorganisms you may not want in your products. Without a broad spectrum, preservative products have very short shelf lives and may need to be refrigerated.
